Julie Smyth, Director of Legal Services
Julie hails from the wee county of Louth and joined Hughes Murphy in 2001 following the awarding of a Bachelor of Law and Taxation Degree. She began work in the Conveyancing section then headed up by Noel Hughes a former founding partner in the firm.
Her aptitude, dedication and warm nature were immediately apparent and saw her appointed Head of the Section in 2007. Purchasing a house is well recognised to be one of the unique stressful events in a client’s life and having Julie handling all aspects from the initial enquiry onwards has made all her clients very thankful indeed.
Following the financial crises Julie, in addition to being Head of the Conveyancing section took over the Garda Compensation section where she has gained extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of Garda Compensation claims. Hughes Murphy has for several years been the leading law firm in Garda Compensation cases and has obtained many landmark awards for clients. Julie has never had the experience of a disappointed client which is no small claim to fame and each and every client has made a point of acknowledging the wonderful professional manner in which the claims have been handled.
There has been a sea change in attitude on the part of the Department of Justice in granting Authorisations for court and as a result Julie has been involved in many successful High Court Judicial Review proceedings challenging the Department of Justice decision not to issue an Authorisation in Garda Compensation claims.
Away from the office Julie indulges her passion for golf, keeping fit and, as if to counterbalance all that activity, socialising with friends.
